I made a post in the past few weeks talking about video game stocks...and if you look recently most video game related stocks are up. Just look at ATVI, TTWO, and ERTS. I played ATVI and got in at 17.30...and sold at 19.45 with 100 shares. Its an ok return considering I'm just starting out with my investments, but I definitely got out of it too early.

My next anticipation is the actual stocks that ARE the video game stocks. If you look at most stocks that are the video game makers they are doing great. And its JUST THE START of the great video game cycle. I made a post about SONY-SNE a few weeks ago and although its done shitty - i bought 20 shares at 48.80, I really think its undervalued as far as the video game sector goes. Playstation 3 was a flop at the beginning, but that was due to a lack of understanding at how great the system was. In the next few months, especially after Christmas, Playstation 3 is much more powerful than any of the other systems offered. Although the Wii has outperformed it in the shortrun, PS3 was created for a long-term system...they expect around 10 years of dominance. With no "really sweet" titles just yet...after the Halo 3 frenzy, I expect PS3 to pick up VERY quickly, especially with Grand Theft Auto 4's release (TTWO). Its a steal already based on power and performance, its just waiting on the titles and gamemakers to figure out the power of the system.

Now, I understand SONY is more than just video games, but with Blue-Ray involved too, I think it has a real advantage. The real question is when is the bottom, and when are the consumers going to realize this steal? These are my thoughts...I want to know what everyone thoughts...video gamers or not... because gamers arent the only ones investing in these companies. I'm a new "trader" and not afraid to admit it, but one thing I know, is you've got to invest in things you know. Let me know your thoughts...

I would have bought a PS3 already...if I knew for sure that Blue Ray was going to be around in it's current format for at least 5 years and therein lies the answer to your question imo. I'm holding off on a Hi Def dvd player until this battle is more sorted out and I'm sure that many other consumers feel the same way. Another reason I'm in no hurry is that I rarely watch dvds anymore, I'll catch a movie on HBO et al, order one from the cable company or download one through a bittorrent, I think the dvd's days might be numbered.

PS3 has already loss. Sony is badly run.

If you want video game exposure, you have to go for a pure play.

Gaming system sales are a product of the snowball effect.

People buy systems for the games. Developers make games for the highest selling systems. The people buy those same systems for the games. So whoever has a running start on selling systems will continue to lead. the 360 and Wii will dominate this generation.

Nintendo is going to have a huge holiday season. The wii will sell, but they also have huge software titles that will continue to sell for years. The new SmashBros. game for the wii will be a huge seller.

Imperator - I definitely agree with you. The Wii is on top and will stay on top. The PS3 won't do much until the blu-ray/hd dispute is finished and that could take years. Sony is also losing money on the sale of the systems, and is making money strictly on games and accesories.

As for game makers, I like the OP's plan with GTA4...i believe the game-makers jump before the games come out, as GTA4 will more than likely be huge.

I think ATVI will be an excellent play next month as we await the arrival of GH3. I believe GH3 will be even more popular as it will be on the ps3, XBOX360, and the Wii. Because so many people are buying the Wii, it will have huge sales on that console due to its price and its unique controls. It can then appeal to all ages.

I plan on buying ATVI soon on a dip.

I agree with you all as far as the past performance that Wii has done the best, 360, then PS3. Everyone speaks of the price being PS3's biggest problem, and they hardly mention it when they talk about 360. But if you'd take a 360 and get all the accessories to make it equal to a PS3(adding bigger HD, and HD-DVD upgrade)...the 360 would be equal if not more than the PS3. I understand that its expensive, but I feel like PS3 has taken an unnecessary beating for the price, while the 360 has gotten off easy. One reason the PS3 hasnt been so popular yet, IS because of the Video Game Makers. These companies have decided to simply port their XBOX360 games into a blu-ray format for PS3, with hardly any additions or improvements. Once game companies start utilizing the PS3's abilities, I think you will see a difference between quality and especially depth of games between the consoles.

The Wii will continue to do well for the next year or so, because the motion controller is great, innovative idea. But PS3 wasnt created to just be a 2-3 year console. Sony's plans were to create a console that can last ~10 years, and its possible because of upgrades and improvements through the internet.

I'm kinda upset I sold ATVI at 19.45 because it should have a good run this holiday season...might buy some if it can dip below 19 again, but I doubt it.

I highly doubt the Wii is a "2 year console". With its low price-point, it is affordable for all ages, and innovative and unique for all age groups. Something the PS3 and Xbox are not. You won't be seeing a 10 year old owning a PS3 consistently anytime soon.

The Wii is backwards compatible, and has internet capabilties, therefore it is upgradeable all the same as the PS3.

Just my two cents.

I'd pass on Sony. Nintendo, Activision or Gamestop would be my plays. Buy them on dips.
