Anybody know how to find out the number of shares available for a stock at a date in the past? COI has a float of over 43 million today, but under 1 million a year ago. How could I find this out to be true (other than from the article I read)? Thanks.
Go to SEC.GOV and type in the company name or symbol. Just follow the filings, and you'll see whether there was an issue of new shares, a split, etc.
If you have acces to Bloomberg or Reuters, in the Company description it will tell you in the "Capital Changes" or the "Dividend" areas.
