What's the general consensus about Mr. Bush's illegal immigrant proposal? Does it really help the American worker? I would think it helps the employer only and hurts Americans in the long run. Here are a few reasons:
1. Employers don't have to pay health care, insurance, or their own employees if they use illegal workers.
2. Employers put more money in their own pockets by winning contracts from most employers that employ citizens who could never compete.
3. You and I, the American taxpayer, subsidize the health care and education costs of these illegals.

Folks the Dog isn't just about making money and this is one instance where the Dog feels he must stand with the American people not with business.

While cheap labor helps keep prices down for many of the goods and services that we all want (maybe need) there are a number of problems that are associated with it.

While it may appear on the surface that the so called "cheap" labor holds prices down it also comes with many indirect costs. These additional costs are realized through our national, state, and local taxes (healthcare, social services, etc.).

Not to mention it takes advantage of foreign workers who are forced to work under illegal and many times dangerous conditions.

Just my $0.02...your mileage may very.

I do think that any foreigner who has served in our military deserves to have full citizenship and if others want it, then the line to enlist forms to the left. Same with American kids who think hard working taxpayers owe them free college educations, go enlist or earn it some other way. (Edit: I deleted the cheaing comments, which came from a recent study where 75 percent of college students admitted to it.)
