View Full Version : Umbrella companies

I make most of my income from stock trading and some from long-term investments.

What I want to do is take the money from my long-term investments and invest in a new company. This new company would then reinvest the money, hire me as an employee, cover my health insurance and 401(k), etc. This has some tax advantages, plus makes some situations easier when I can say "I work for XYZ Co." instead of "I'm self-employed" or "I'm a stock trader".

This type of arrangement is common with certain contractors and is known as an umbrella company or employer-of-record.

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this, or if there was an existing company I could join instead of setting up my own?
