I believe active euthanasia is both morally acceptable and medically proper in certain circumstances. I feel Kevorkian should never have been incarcerated and the legal system did perpetrate an injustice upon him. I also feel misguided religious forces have influenced pusillanimous politicians to an ill considered decision, and people are suffering needlessly because of it.

The government and religous zealots know what is best for us, why if it weren't for them we wouldn't be ale to tie our shoelaces.

I wonder which violent criminal was released early in order to make room for the dastardly evil Dr. Kevorkian?

I saw a good movie about right to die on tv, called Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside). The poor guy has been trying to get assistance for nearly 30 years, since a diving accident left him paralized from the neck down. The know it all judges and pompous priests are determined to stop anyone from helping him, which upset and disgusted me. It's based on a true story, in Spanish subtitled in English, and a good watch for anyone who likes movies. Just search "The Sea Inside" and in the wikipedia page select the external link at the bottom "promotional site for US region" for a little trailer. The poor guy imagines for years that he can walk and fly. I am starting to fail now, and it would be good to have the Kevorkian option if things get intolerable due to a painful terminal illness. When you get near 70 these thoughts become more frequent, even though you still get around fine.
