The united States senate passed a bill a few weeks ago saying that wanted to invest in 8 billion dollars in vaccines for the bird flu. Then last week president bush came out pushing for 7.2 billion dollars mostly for vaccine research. I think this is very bullish information for companies such as BCRX, MEDI and NVAX yet all of them are in the house of pain. What does cramer say about this subject?

I don't know that Cramer has addressed the subject of vaccine stocks. My thinking on vaccine stocks was identical to yours. Vaccine stocks seemed like a very lucrative opportunity to make some dollars. On 9-13-05 I bought NVAX @ $1.68 per share. By 9-16-05 it had dropped to $1.45 per share and did not move up much till 9-30-05 and reached $1.74 per share. I made a bad decision to get out while I had my shirt. As you know NVAX as of this writing is at $3.13 per share. I obviously am telling myself to exercise more patience while kicking myself. My thought on the stock is it's a long term investment. The target price for the stock is $20.00 with a 52 Week high of $6.01 per share. Some recommend it as a moderate buy. [/b]

BCRX was always a hype play - but they don't make vaccine they make an anti-viral drug. But the only anti-viral drug being stocked is Roche's tamiflu. Peramivir is untested. Nice speculative play for about 3 days. It's come and go unless something changes.
NVAX was also overhyped but as with BCRX you couldv'e got in and out and made some money.
Thing about vaccine this though is that Chiron simply can't make enough vaccine and so everyone that makes vaccine will benefit. eg. MEDI
Medimmune (MEDI) is the only decent player here. It makes vaccine yes but it's actually a half decent prospect of a biotech company - and it didn't get overhyped. It's not in the house of pain at all. I think you're looking at the wrong chart if you think it is.
Trading on the basis of what you hear on CNN is dangerous. If you hear something on CNN, you better own it already or it's too late. And a day or two later, you might as well sell it.

I just wonder if many haven't already had big run ups on all this speculation, except for MRK, who is been getting slammed on account of the Vioxx lawsuits and future patent expirations, but they are experts on vaccines and have some new ones in their pipeline. That would be my play on it, if any.
