Razor,

We use a third party provider, Topica, to send our recap emails. They follow the best practises of emaiing, and since they have relationships with all the ISPs, they encourage double opt-in lists, which means that by verifying your email address, you confirm that you really want to be on the list, as opposed to someone else putting you on the list.

I don't blame you for being paranoid. If you want, you can send me the email you got at thierry@cramersmadmoney.com and I will click on the link for you, thereby making you a confirmed subscriber.

About 10% of the emails we send to the unconfirmed subscribers bounce, mostly because of strict double-opt-in requirements at ISPs. Probably about 2% bounce for the confirmed part of the list. Over half the list is confirmed - if we start getting complaints (false ones, of course, because we never added anyone to the list ourselves) we may have no choice but to delete the unconfirmed part of the list.
